Yay! What a happy day.
Look how beautiful Mrs. D is, even just after giving birth.
Congratulations, JD (I love the name Madeline)

Congrats. She took her time, didn’t she? You just know that years from now, boys will be left waiting while she gets ready for dates.
Comment by Dan Collins on 4/9 @ 2:17 pm #
In the living room. With JD. Glaring.
Comment by mgroves on 4/9 @ 2:18 pm #
Born today or yesterday? I ask because my son was born yesterday. Congrats JD.

Today. Congrats to you, too! Have you got a pictures link or one that I can post?

Congrats on the new punishment JD. Can’t golf with a new baby in the house. Excellent handicap-padding strategy. Health and happiness.

Wow, we have a contagious spread of babys! Congrats, JD, she has those pinchable cheeks that grandparents love to abuse.
Congrats also to you Mr. Groves. Now has anybody heard from Enoch Root or, as I was unavailable yesterday, did I already miss the news?

I don’t think JD would do that to his lawn, Mikey. Besides, who needs claymores when you’ve got the Vietnamese Mafia?
Comment by daleyrocks on 4/9 @ 2:30 pm #

Hearty congrats, JD. All that acid you dropped in your reckless days doesn’t seem to have created any genetic problems. Oh wait, that was me. Sorry.
Beautiful child and wife, BTW.

Comment by Enoch_Root on 4/9 @ 3:12 pm #
It’s a PW baby fest, really.
Comment by darwins on 4/9 @ 3:13 pm #
It’s also Joseph Pulitzer’s birthday except he died. They named a prize after him.

Jen pushed for… get this… 7mins.
Oh, yeah, well my wife pushed for 5 minutes — totally drug-free. Not even a freaking Advil. It’s like she’s some kind of superhero. Your move, Enoch.
Henry Ross — 7lbs. 15oz., 20″ — Doc who gave him the circumcision gave him a nice compliment — said she had to use the large clamp.

Carin – SOB. I wannanother baby ….

I was about to say “it could be worse…” but then I realized… ah, forget it.
BBR – Oh, yeah, well my wife pushed for 5 minutes  totally drug-free. Not even a freaking Advil. It’s like she’s some kind of superhero. Your move, Enoch.
Not only did Jen accomplish 2 of her 5 (five) delivers without so much as a drop of Children’s Tylenol, but she didn’t make a peep… while concurrently skinning a cougar with a dull spoon!
As for the penis thing… did I happen to mention I am Irish?
anyway, Congrats on Henry Ross… love the name.
Comment by Mikey NTH on 4/9 @ 4:48 pm #
Carin – you don’t have to clean up after this crew. Be relieved. Real, real relieved.
Comment by Karl on 4/9 @ 4:49 pm #
More babies than one could ever hope to handle.
Comment by Mikey NTH on 4/9 @ 4:50 pm #
BBR – just make sure you give him the right instructions. Such as how you do not want any surprises coming into the family room when you are trying to relax – IYKWIMAITYD.
Comment by SarahW on 4/9 @ 4:58 pm #
Cheezit. Umm, I cut my kid out with a spork in thirty seconds flat. Applied a Sparkler and flat tire sealant, then did pilates.
Or not.
Comment by Spies, Brigands, and Pirates on 4/9 @ 5:00 pm #
Congrats to all!
Nothing makes me happier than hearing about smart people having babies.

More little Americans to fill Fisher-Price’s coffers. Dads – buy slippers. They will allow you to negotiate Lego-mined floors with dignity.
Comment by JD on 4/9 @ 5:52 pm #
I just read all of these to Better Half. She says thank you so much, y’all almost made her cry. I think she understand why I enjoy you so much. She also says that anyone that gives birth without an epidural has mental problems.
Comment by Synova on 4/9 @ 5:58 pm #
Oh, how sweet! She looks like a baby, all squished and stuff.
Comment by Rusty on 4/9 @ 6:01 pm #
Congradulations the both/all of you. Babies are about the coolest things on earth. You are truly blessed.
Comment by Big D on 4/9 @ 6:03 pm #
I’m kinda new here, but allow me to offer my heartfelt congratulations! I have watched my wife give birth five times and it was always an awe inspiring event. You are truly blessed.
May God hold your little ones in the palm of his hand.
Comment by Dan Collins on 4/9 @ 6:07 pm #
Big D, Enoch’s got you tied.
Comment by MayBee on 4/9 @ 6:16 pm #
Oh yeah? I gave birth while modeling in a Victoria’s Secret Runway show. I simply paused midstride, gently pushed once, sliced the umbilical cord with my 4″ stilletto, and continued on. I didn’t so much as drop a feather from my wings.
Comment by Cowboy on 4/9 @ 6:22 pm #
JD, Enoch, BBR, mgroves:
What a wonderful blessing!! I am so happy for you all..extra rosaries at Mass tomorrow for all!
PW–it is the virtual Fertile Crescent!

Comment by JD on 4/9 @ 6:36 pm #

JD, Enoch, BBR and any other PW commenters or lurkers that have had a beautiful child lately, congratulations! JD, both your wife and your new child are beautiful. You a happy man! Again congratulations and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!!

1979 1st born, long labor (she had a big head), natural no drugs 8 lbs 3 oz 20 in
1981 2nd born, most of the labor was done while watching Raiders of the Lost Arc… I was NOT going to leave the theater. Had #2 within 30 minutes of hitting the hospital. No drugs, 7 lbs 8 oz 21 inches
1983 3rd born, made sure to try and get to the hospital a bit early…had her within 60 minutes, 8 lbs 5 oz 20 1/2 inches
1987 4th born, went to hospital at first contraction… Doc checks me, only 4 dilated, he yawns says he’s going to the cafeteria for lunch since I should be in there a few more hours. Two (count ‘em, TWO) contractions later the nurse goes flying down the hall to fetch him as I’m suddenly at 10 and read to deliver. He scoots into the room to catch #4, a little amazed at it all. He remarks “easiest delivery I’ve ever had”. I quip “does that mean I get a discount on the bill?” Nurses snicker as he looks shocked and says “uh, NO!” #4 is 8 lbs 14 oz 20 inches.
I think its all that old hillbilly, hardscrapple farmer background. I loved being preggers and while labor was, well, work! I got through it really well.
and Maybee made me startle the cats with laughter re: milk. I could hear almost any baby crying when my girls were infants and the front of my shirt would get soaked.
and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE teh babies!

Enoch_Root: Declan Michael born at 1:14CST
JD: If it had been a boy, we would have named him John Declan.
“Declan” was a top pick of mine, too, but that one was shelved in committee. Turns out Wife is not as big an Elvis Costello fan as I am. Who knew?
Big ups to Enoch_Root, JD and mgroves. The comments section will sound a bit drowsier for the next few months.
