I think a lot is cause there’s the plight of the people and then there’s individual families that have lived for generations in … refugee camps on UN handouts. That’s just poor character, that. I mean at some point you’d think someone would say hey, I want better for my family, but a lot of these people are just really different-thinking kind of people I guess.

Israel is our friend, cynn. This New Palestine thing is of particularly poor character. But really most everywhere around there for many moons is really a lot of poor character. So that part’s easy, but I don’t think you really have taken the measure of what it is to be a nation that deserts its friends. That would be France so you don’t have to google. back in 2003 or so James Lileks had a great column where he vivasected the Foggy bottom/NYT Op-Ed/think-tank types who routinely call for “The peace process” to be restarted whenever x amount of Israelis are slaughtered buying pizza or catching a bus.

Seriously, cynn, I’m just confused by what you’re saying. They’ll kill anyone who attacks them, as it happens they are surrounded by Arabs with little love for them. The Israelis are going to defend themselves no matter what happens. You speak of all the weapons we supply them, but the home-grown Israeli arms industry is doing just fine manufacturing their own weapons.

As ghastly as this post is in its ghoulish humor, it’s just painfully biting satire. Present this as “Jews killed by palestinian” and the left cries about the evil apartheid Jewish oppressor. Present it as a school shooting and they’ll sit up and take notice… until they hear where and how it was done, by whom.
Sometimes I wonder if people like that ever have a moment of discomfort and introspection when they are confronted with this kind of thing. What do they do, if so? Run to a friend and discuss the evils of George Bush until it goes away? Read Carter’s antisemite book? Push it down and ready for the coming revolution, it’s really coming, honest this time, for real, any day now?

Interesting thought that the top billing of this tragedy matches that of a possible US killing, not the much more numerous deaths of Iraqis yesterday or the Palestinians the week before. Let’s just admit Israel as the main recepiant of US welfare to the tune of 6000 per person per year, that Israel is our poorest 51st state. Porta Rico? Israel is a largest recipient of US foreign aide and yet they do have a life style comparable to upper incomed Americans. That’s the point!
I don’t begrudge it too much as American Jews to pay more per capita than probably anyone else (except Japanese Americans, ironically) as they have a higher income than most so aid to Israel makes a certain sense. But the theocratic nature of Israel does bother me. Saudi Arabia also is supported by the USA with unlimited armed support and connections within the Bush and Saudi clans and also is much More Theocratic than Israel. And Saudi money has funded the Palestinian fatah movement in the past while Iran another theocracy supports other factions of Palestinian ‘resistance’. I am making a point against Theocratic governance either Jewish, Christian or Islamic.
as for the jewish diaspora.. the USA is the Real promised land. Sorry, I just don’t think Zionism was well thought out or correct in any sense. Zionism was oddly supportive of right wing movements in Europe even as the Nazi’s were gaining ground. During WW2, in essence Irgunists were attacking Britain with similar terrorist actions as the Palestinians do now. Quid pro quo or vicey versa? I am just pointing out the attachment that the USA and Israel has. It’s not logical, it’s illogically religious-seeming.
If we’d supported secularists in either Israel or Palestine perhaps we’d been better off? The life style of Isrealis now is such that even medicine and law are being less pursued in favor of ’start-up’ billionairistas. Lots of corruption with US laws favoring bi-citisenship. And there is a notable arrogance to Lesser Humans such as foreign workers, or Palestinians, or just Russians in Israel that almost matches the full-blown despicable lazy ‘chosen-ness’ of Kuwaitis and Saudis. Americans who are by the millions at the risk of losing their homes don’t want to hear that their tax dollars are going to finance the well-off Israelis.
The weak but frequent Pale. rocket attacks were annoying but then so is freeway traffic in LA and both were about as lethal. Call that the price of progress…. but I’d choose LA over Isreal, as awful as LA is…if safety is an issue…but maybe Israel is more alive, si?

But let’s not indulge in special pleading. Jewish deathes do not eclipse other’s tragedies and the conditions of Palestinians are caused much by the wholesale dismantlement and arrogant dismissal of their lands and rights. The stealing of their agricultural lands, water rights and building of walls to enslave them has led to a typical Arab/Islamic masculine response…blood feud and duels to the death.
To say that the deaths of Palestinians are unimportant as you’ve said while the tragic deaths of a handful of Israelis is all important is the essence of reactionary special pleading and blinder-ed self-ignorance.
You ignoramuses probably didn’t note that the killer of the teenagers was an employee of the very school according to NPR. That the proximity of priveleged and enslaved maybe causes more bitterness than healing. If you’d noticed how Palestinians are treated by the chosen ones of Israel, who now disdain common work, such as driving buses or even cooking, you’d realize that the occupied might have a bone to pick with the arrogant occupiers. Many Israelis aren’t the arrogant ones by the way…but the RightWingers are. And so it is in America, where we laugh at drive-by killings or the unemployed (it’s all their fault so let them suffer).
but I’ll carry on while you shudder over a weak terrorist here and there. Israel has dozens of nuclear bombs and advanced weaponry, and enormous talent. They can carry on too. They don’t whimper at every tragedy like you do.
I am sorry for those who lost children whatever race or religion and they are many hundreds per day. We’ve got more local tragedies nearby to be indulging in the few from afar that the media promotes.

LA’s police force has a long history of racism and relative low police to citizen ratios due to conservative anti tax policies of white conservatives thus in self defense LA cops were known to be the shoot first ask questions types as they are undermanned and barely a band aid on the problems of the large diverse community of a huge metro area. Obviously, you might be in a suburb but LA set the tone. Low police manpower, and strong-arming the populace esp. blacks and Hispanics. The animosity of Blacks vs. Hispanics that’s been going on forever but that’s like Catholic vs. Protestant Irish..partly like two gangs amidst poverty and limited resources… as Ireland has become more prosperous the differences dissipate.
Conservatives like you are much of the problem. Priming the pump, and limiting illegal activities of all types including the Hiring of illegal aliens by mainly conservative businessmen would help. The infamous antics of Chief of police Gates didn’t help. Reagan’s connections with the Agribusiness elites didn’t help. Clinton’s aid to police depts. in the 90s did help…crime rates went down. And Bush’s lack of support for police depts are making crime rates going back up again. Gangs are self protective organizations. The Good Whites and Jews never had them… woman, you are dense. But they are taking services they are not entitled to and they are a slap in the face to every legal immigrant who filled out the paperwork and waited their turn. Illegals are cheaters. Yes, many of the are actually the victims of their own country’s corrupt government which counts on them for the cash that is sent back. But they have a devastating effect on our medical care, education system and law enforcement.

But Reagan left such a huge imprint on our nation’s agenda due to his landslide elections and follow-up of Bush 1 getting elected even during a Recession (a first in history for an incumbent party retaining the Presidency during a recession and maybe an omen for ‘08?). Of course in New York, Republicans like Betty Little in ADKs are upset that Spitzer’s starting to close down unneeded prisons because the Adirondack economy needs Prison jobs. Same thing in Cal. Some backwoods Dem or Repub…usually the later, is after the Prison jobs from the state to keep their constituents happy…..so lock ‘em up and throw away the key.
start by dumping the antiHippy Laws….reduce the non violent drug penalties and make them more lenient and less intrusive upon liberty. Cops love drug busts…because they are so easy to frame and convict and relatively non violent unlike the feared “domestic disturbance”. Hey I know an undercover officer..you’d think he was the nicest hippy ever. Totally fooled me first time I met him. My “boss’s” brother.
Nixon and Reagan and Republicans loved to frame the liberals as being scary hippies and that’s when our prison population exploded …all about politics! And conservative Democrats played into it like Tipp O’Neal when a Boston Celtic’s played died from a cocaine-induced coronary death. He joined with the Gipper to make incrediably high sentences for minor drug offenders…usually girl friends of more major drug offenders. You know the game threaten a minor player with major time to squeal on the big one…but they usually don’t have any info to give to convict and they get the highest sentences.
The guy who writes “the Wire”, mentioned that it’s really a war against the underclass (in Baltimore) as the cops are just the agents of conservative white bread America keeping down the local ‘capitalist’s’ just trying to make it in jobless inner cities. He’s a journalist and a teacher who’s spent a lot of time in squad cars for researching his books and stories. Don’t remember his name…on Terry Gross recently.

I’ve sorta done that before so I’m not complaining. I just hate it when tv people tell me what to do especially when they don’t even have commercials and are mostly useless.

you have no idea what you’re babbling about, peckerwood. CA has three THREE programs to keep non-violent addicts out of jail and in rehab programs. PC1000 (diversion), PC1201.1 aka Prop 36 and Drug Court. Even addicts who have committed other jailable crimes can get rehab through the Inroads program. Not to mention but we even have CRC.
No “minor addict” goes to jail, dipshit. I know this, you obviously don’t.

yeah, happens ALL THE TIME. I mean, when in CA people convicted of assault are sentenced to an average of 4 years (with good time they can be released in two), it sure is funny we’d be sending some tweaker to prison for 20 years the first time they’re caught under the influence.

okay, Darleen. I did start out on this digression mentioning the success of lowering the prison population in NY as I am familiar with it going thru the ‘daks every two weeks. I have my doubts about too much leniency too, but you’re reading much too much into my alleged antiJewishness and antiPolice stuff. Seems a lot of criminality starts in school or with school aged kids but as my teacher friend notes, little intervention is allowed or encouraged and Mainstreaming them just passes ‘em up the line. She’s got a surefire Criminal in one of her 9th grade English classes. Parents were also criminals. Everyone just waits for him to do a crime that’ll get him imprisoned. The law protects him from intervention until a crime occurs. Meanwhile he ominously refuses to do his work and just sits there or is truant. Mainstreaming is a bipartisan concept I’ve heard. Anti-Nannyism and false egalitarianism perhaps?

Why did the topic of this thread change from Palestinian butchery to illegal immigration? I honestly think the reason DD is for white washing the crimes of the Palestinians is due to their skin color. Just like if the illegal immigrants were mainly white he would be against them too. It just fits teh Narrative for him to believe that any person that is darker than another automatically is a victim. A form of reverse racism if you will.

It’s more like this: they are the oppressed minority, the Israelis are the oppressor majority. The white west supports Israel (especially theocratic US) and thus it must be bad. The oppressed are always morally superior to the oppressor. Life is so easy when you can split everyone into identity groups and decide the simple calculus of who to support and condemn. No need to examine each situation by its own merits, no need to understand morality and justice. Just pick which side based on who the oppressor is. Being the minority by definition sanctifies your actions, being the majority turns your actions evil. Even good deeds are bad by an oppressor.
