Dems 2008: A moment of silence for the Clinton campaign [Karl]

After going nuclear in their last ad, Slate’s John Dickerson asked the following question in a Clinton campaign conference call:

“What foreign policy moment would you point to in Hillary’s career where she’s been tested by crisis?”

According to the Hotline (with audio goodness), “You could’ve knit a sweater in the time it took the usually verbose team of Mark Penn, Howard Wolfson and Lee Feinstein, Clinton’s national security director, to find a cogent answer.”  And it was not very good.

Obama supporters and fans have been nailed by the same type of question more than once.  And Hillary Clinton knows it.  But her campaign was not prepared to answer the same type of question on an ad about how she is better prepared to be president.  Even though Obama pointed to her Iraq vote in response to the ad.

If you listen closely to that pause in the audio, I think you can hear the faint sound of the Fat Lady rustling through a drawer for a fork.

To be fair, there was that time Bill was getting a hummer while on the line about Bosnia, and she sorta had to deal with that.

  2. Comment by happyfeet on 3/1 @ 1:02 pm #

That’s easy, really. She had to actually make a stand of consequence with respect to liberating Iraq, and has had to take ownership of that decision. Baracky just gets on a plane and goes and finds some peasants to play dress-up with and says genocide? Not my problem oh and also it’s just so sad how everyone hates us … we should change that - let’s make a music video, yo?

    A tuning fork, perhaps?

For real though her argument about how Baracky hasn’t been tested politically could have been brought home a lot better if she had been more willing to demonstrate how eminently mockable the ambiguously chavista fluffernutter is. This phone business a lot backfires cause it puts him in a way more serious context than he at all merits a mention. Baracky is over at the head of a very noisy kiddie table while she’s doing the hard work of a gracious host is more what she should have been aiming for.

just saw her asked the same question on a press plane to Dallas… erm, she fielded it very badly. But there is the little matter of Larry Sinclair for Obama to deal with…. and I am telling you, I listened to a couple interviews with the guy and it was very convincing.

    A tuning fork, perhaps?

Perhaps. Or maybe just looking for something to stick in the meat to check whether it’s done.

Uh oh. Thus, this marks the end of the GOP’s chances for keeping the WH. Fire up the pointing-fingers and start the blame game, fellas!

Must be bad news for the left — heet’s back to prevent the appearance of any light on the subject.

Thus, this marks the end of Bill’s chances for a legacy that his own party didn’t passionately reject a mere eight years after he left office.

    Enoch,

Sinclair took a polygraph and failed it. That story is dead.

If John McCain is any sort of gentleman, he will send Hillary an FTD bouquet. And a release, and a fat royalty check.

For the love of God - Stay away from ‘Cats’!

heet and his imitators are the ‘Jim Rose Circus Sideshow’ of teh intertubes. To be seen, but never imitated.

    Truly an accomplishment, I think.

And that is a compliment, heet.

I have emptied garbage cans into the packer in July, and seen Uncle Ben’s moving rice; I have smelt the looie juice and still had chili fires with cheese and onions at ten a.m. break; I have cleaned restrooms and pit toilets; I have cleared sewer back-ups; I have searched for dead bodies in the Huron River; but I have never been so nauseated as I was at the Jim Rose show at the State Theater in Detroit.

You have made Epic. Rest on your laurels.

  20. Comment by maggie katzen on 3/1 @ 7:14 pm #

I don’t know Mikey. the Cats thing is an old SNL bit, some magician or hypnotist and everyone coming out of the show would say, “it was better than Cats I would see it again and again” or something like that. can’t find a clip of it.

This from the crowd who hasn’t been right in years. The Iraq fiasco, the 2006 elections, the rise of Obama, the incredible plummeting presidency of Bush, etc… Never saw those coming, did ya? You’ll excuse me if I treat your predictions and insight with the scorn. Sadly, you still believe you are relevant. The upcoming elections are going to be very, very painful and confusing for you. At least you’ll have your awesome hate and dick jokes.

Yet continuing on with the policy changed’s Perfect Record, etc.. Woe is you, heet.

At least you’ll have your awesome hate and dick jokes.

    What hate jokes?

OH! You’re saying we’ll still have our awesome hate! What hate would that be, heet? Who do you presume our hatred is towards?

Cuz, I gotta tell you, about a month ago, someone asked me who, in all the world, I hated. I racked my brain for a while, but in the end I couldn’t think of anyone or even any group. Somehow, I don’t think you can say the same.

Which is sad for you. Really.

  25. Comment by heet on 3/1 @ 9:45 pm #

    that was pretty lame, Rob.

  28. Comment by maggie katzen on 3/1 @ 11:20 pm #

kinda like those Afghan winters. oh and the victorious Ned Lamont or John Kerry for that matter. that was supposed to be, to borrow a phrase, a cakewalk. okay, back to digging my bunker.

oh, and Karl Rove? indicted. sooper sekretly.

  30. Comment by Karl on 3/2 @ 2:33 am #

Yep. Got that whole “surge” thingy wrong, too. It might have worked if Pelosi hadn’t forced the troops out of Iraq after that killer election.

  31. Comment by Rusty on 3/2 @ 7:37 am #

    At least I have a dick.(rimshot)

  32. Comment by Enoch_Root on 3/2 @ 7:40 am #

Pablo - I’m not much of a conspiracy guy… but you say he “failed” the polygraph. Did you see the stories about who administered it… not sure he failed it at all.

  33. Comment by Pablo on 3/2 @ 7:50 am #

    Enoch,

“Dr. Ed Gelb, Former President of the American Polygraph Association was the Polygraph expert selected by Whitehouse.com. He has done over 30,000 polygraph examinations over his long career. There were two polygraph tests administered by Dr. Gelb on Friday. the first polygraph asked Mr. Sinclair on his sex claims. The second polygraph test asked Mr. Sinclair on the drug use claims. There was deception indicated in both tests.”

If Whitehouse.com had anything to run with, I suspect they’d be doing so. It seems that they don’t, and at this point, the “deception indicated” is all the proof the MSM is going to need to discount the story. In this case, they’d be right to do so. All the evidence we have that the story is true is Sinclair’s word and this does a great job of calling that into question.

  34. Comment by Enoch_Root on 3/2 @ 11:53 am #

Pablo - only prob is… the Gelb is NOT actually a Dr… he only stayed at a Holiday Inn the night before. Pls research and respond.

  35. Comment by Mikey NTH on 3/2 @ 12:05 pm #

Why don’t you do the research, Enoch? It is your hobby horse after all. If you want to ride it you got to do the work.

  36. Comment by Pablo on 3/2 @ 12:22 pm #

Enoch, a polygrapher doesn’t need to be a doctor, and I don’t see anything to suggest that he hasn’t been doing examinations for 30+ years, and he seems to be in good standing with the American Polygraph Association, admitted as an expert witness, etc…

Unless there’s more to the story than we’ve heard, I don’t see it going anywhere.
