   It’s beautiful but ponderous and I’ll just go ahead and say it… I have a lot of trouble keeping the characters straight cause the characters change their hairstyles a lot. Or something.

   But the vengeance lady herself is worth hanging in there for, very cool actress. I think she got the part a lot cause the way it’s written Lady Vengeance has to be really beautiful. I’m pretty sure this one’s not going to have a feel-good ending. Last night I had to bail cause she shot a little dog. Lady Vengeance has issues.

    I promise. I actually don’t know for sure yet. He sort of worked it in while he was explaining his take on the philosophical underpinnings of this, and I had already taken my sleeping pills so I was just kind of half-listening, even though I was really kind of interested.

    A while back, I met a young man named Shamus at the VFW Hall in East Moline, Illinois. He was a good-looking kid, 6′2” or 6′3”, clear eyed, with an easy smile. He told me he’d joined the Marines and was heading to Iraq the following week. As I listened to him explain why he’d enlisted, his absolute faith in our country and its leaders, his devotion to duty and service, I thought this young man was all any of us might hope for in a child. But then I asked myself: Are we serving Shamus as well as he was serving us? Or maybe he was more like 6′0”. I couldn’t tell for sure. He had on boots. American boots. Boots that could take him far. Into the future. Our future. Together. Me and Shamus. You too. All of us. Together. With Shamus also. Boot or no boots. He was tall. Tall enough to see the future. A different future. A future of change. He was definitely wearing boots though.

    You know what? Don’t feel bad saying it. When I lived in Hong Kong, a Chinese woman in our building management department told me in a very giggly apologetic way that she really had a hard time telling “us” apart.
