Hey, Darleen. Greeeat pics. I’ll not be nasty….butttt…I hear more conservatives raving about Kennedy’s taxcuts than anyone these days on the “left” side saying much about Pres. Kennedy. He does have his raptureous Catholic sainthood for being first C. in Presidency and his looks and pretty wife helped…but that faded when same conservative Catholic Dems went for Reagan.
Kennedy was remarkably conservative imo. He ran on a fear the Russkies Missle Gap platform. I’d wish sometimes we’d have truly conservative and liberal parties, but with the Kennedys and Clintons, there is a conservative wing to the Democratic party. The Republicans have become a conservative party…(w/ the possible exception of McCain being a centrist) as the late Sen. Jeffords realized. Democrats a Liberal party? Not yet.
I consider Pres. Kennedy mostly conservative as he didn’t do much to rectify civil rights for blacks and he upped the anti in AntiCommunism. He was the one who marked a line in the muck of the rice paddys of “Nam and made a case for dominoes falling. Eisenhower was just treading water letting some anti’s in his admins. do the walk. I don’t buy Oliver Stone’s arguments that the Saint Pres. was going “left” thus had to be eliminated by a MIC sponsored assasination..I think that is JFK was about. But?s remain….but too much is given credit for his very short term in office by conservatives. He obviously had his ’statist’ side, much of it for the good… at least some talk of poverty reduction etc.
Some things I liked: Council on Physical Fitness, Peace Corps. Things I disliked: Cuban Missle crisis, expansion of military presence in “Nam”. Ghostwritten books. And his legendary progenitor of a father.
Hey, I was a Nixon supporter in the debates..being about 10 yo. Even then I was “political”. Maybe I was right, ever see the videos of Nixon vs. Kennedy that were supposedly a TKO for Kennedy? (w/ help from Mayor Daley in Chicago) saw ‘em awhile back and obviously Kennedy was so full of drugs it was scary. A Benzedrine freak plus numerous other drugs including some for his painful war-damaged back.
back to current picture: my g/f she voted Clinton and did excuse Hillary’s imo outrageous description of herself as “the underdog and Obama’s the establishment pick”. That was jawdropping for me. But her excuse for Clinton….was Ted Kennedy picking Obama. I had to pause and agree half heartedly. Establishment=Ted Kennedy. Maybe.
that’s my take on Trudeau’s cartoon.
as for noseplugs? We’ll wait and see how McCain will be defended on these pages. My sympathties for McCain annoyance is mitigated by how much more turmoil we Democrats are having with two relatively conservative Democrats fighting amongst themselves. I lean towards Obama. He’s the more electable one. But I wouldn’t put my money on either right now.
the antiMcCain diatribes by coulter, rush and malkin, neither of whom are liked by the majority of Americans, are just pluses for his elect-ability.
going to work…so have at it….

They’re certainly a modern liberal — meaning “progressive” — party. They’re definitely not a classical liberal party.
Of course, the Republicans aren’t classical liberals OR classical conservatives. They’re just not as gung-ho for the “progressive” program.

What I found funny about this cartoon was the idea of some college-aged girl, born in the late 80’s, thinking JFK was “hot”. That Trudeau, he still brings the funn-ay.

Dave is kinda right. About the diatribes. In the sense though that McCain a lot destroys the narrative the media has invested so much in. The “Third Bush Term” nonsense is really the most powerful meme the Dems have cause that’s the one they have been building the narrative for since at least Katrina.

Was Trudeau ever funny?
Comment by Squid on 2/7 @ 11:47 am #
I find myself laughing at him often. Doonesbury, on the other hand…

I voted for Bush in the last two elections (Iraq war main reason last time) but am a registered independent. If Hillary wins then I vote for McCain (or Mitt if somehow he won) no sweat but….
….for some reason I want to vote for Obama. I know little of his actual positions (like the cartoon although what little bits I know about the single-payer health, the carbon cap & trade stuff is scary) but every time I see a bit of him talking my reason disappears.
I like him. I mean the persona he is portraying on TV that is.
My reaction reminds me of some of what some of my friends old German grandparents said about listening to Hitler speak; he was just hypnotic & drew you to his side. No reasoning, no logic.
I can not figure out why I am so smitten. It might be that he does make those broad statements about how great America is and can be. Maybe I just like hearing that from some pol that I do not know much about and it blinds me to anything else.
So I am thinking that if Obama gets the nod then I appear willing to make a deal with the devil: The Dem’s can have all three branches for now and I will trust them to….do what, I dunno. Give them their chance with all three branches and see what they can do.
What could go wrong?
If I am feeling that way & nothing changes, God save the Republicans in Nov.

Dear confused,
Thanks for your letter. As dreamy as Barry O is, he really just wants to get in your pants. A cheap, fast lay. Once you give it up for him with his charm and hypnotic changeyness and vote him in, you’ll be dumped in a New York minute. Better to stick with that nice boy, Johnny Mac. Yes, I know he has a temper and may be a little on the old side and lies a great deal, but he’ll provide a good home.

I’m voting for Urkel! because he makes me laugh.
Comment by Ronald on 2/7 @ 6:25 pm #
That is hilarious! But I do not quite agree though. Obama is not one I would call “hot”. But, I gues it’s all the “smart” and hopeful stuff working for the ladies.

JFK has to be spinning in his grave. The modern Dems have obliterated the once proud party that he led, and have abandoned nearly everything he ever stood for. Funny thing is, if JFK ran today, he would be the most conservative candidate in the race. Except for that jooooooo hating kook laup nor

Obama’s hot in the news. He’s making bold moves to secure his place as official candidate.
What’s the purpose of the McCain nose plug?
Comment by JD on 2/7 @ 8:03 pm #
Estela – Bold moves? Name one. Hell, name one thing Barry O’ has accomplished. We will not hold our breath waiting …
Comment by happyfeet on 2/7 @ 8:06 pm #
He’s definitely bringing people into the process who have never given much thought to politics before.
Comment by JD on 2/7 @ 8:07 pm #
who have never given much thought
You could have quit writing right there.
Comment by Pablo on 2/7 @ 8:32 pm #
OK, so you’ve got me thinking about it. But after the fucking will he just go away? Because that’s important to me.
Comment by Ermar on 2/8 @ 12:38 am #
Oh! The pictures you’ve posted were so great. Well, I’m gonna vote for Urkel! He’s so funny! He makes me laugh. Go Urkel.
