One of the big differences between the left and right is, the right are at their most “vicious” to the left when the leftie in question does something mean or stupid.
The left is at its most mean and vicious simply when it perceives the righty as weak – such as upon the occurrence of a personal tragedy. Or sometimes when the righty is perceived as “properly” belonging on the left, such as the vicious racist attacks on Dr. Rice and Mrs. Malkin.
So, basically, the right judges you on what you do and say, and the left judges you on your status. It’s a grossly simplified analogy, but essentially holds up.

I went to Townhall to read Ann’s piece and it just seethes with sorrow about her father and derision and contempt for her enemies. Like so mnay righties, all the “fear of terrorism” is just a Trojan horse to continue in the “war against libruls”. As that war’s supreme commander, Ann manages to fill two pages ostensibly about her love for her father with disdainful jokes about Ted Kennedy, a hagiography to union busting, a crack about “baby killing”, and a wish her father would arrange to smite some liberals.
Yet, it’s Chris Knight who is offensive? Is is hiding a hit piece behind the shield of the death of a loved one?
Reminds me of one of those Palestinian funerals, which the mourners all use as an excuse to go kill a 19 year old IDF draftee. She has a ton of class, that one. She and Mr. Knight deserve each other.

Leo, I see where you’re coming from, but I’ve got to disagree. Fair-minded progressives have “played nice” with the bullies for far too long. The right wing bullies like Bill-O and mAnn view any modicum of conscience and compassion as weakness, which they mock relentlessly.
Prediction: Normally after mAnn spews her venom, and gets rightfully criticized for it, she plays the “pobre de mi” victim card. He next column will be about how the mean and nasty left made fun of her father’s death. Of course, that’s a lie. People’s parents die all the time. Usually the thing to do is to bring food, but lots of times paper goods and plastic cups are forgotten about, and if you really want to be helpful, be the guy who brings over a big Igloo cooler full of ice and keep it stocked until everything settles down again. Also, lots of times a couple bottles of wine is not inappropriate at all.

My opinion of Ann is that she is very intelligent, and probably has forgotten more than I will ever know. She, for better or worse, has decided to be the conservative response to the attack-dogs of the left. I don’t think she invented mean-spiritedness (despite how the left crucifies her), she has merely joined the fray. I don’t defend her (well, today I am) when she says something off, but I have been known to cheer when she gets it right.
And, lets not pretend that she is embraced by the right. She got fired from NR. A fact that the left ignores. Can the left say the same for it’s vitriolic?

My issue with Ann is that she takes a great idea, and then feels compelled to crap on, handing anyone not already subscribed to the idea a big shiny bow to dismiss it.
Ex. “I think that social dynamics have shifted voting patterns in the US over the last century” = perfectly reasonable analysis, which is then followed by “and thus, we should consider removing the Amendment giving women the vote” which has the effect of killing the whole deal.
She does this with tax policy and foreign policy especially. You don’t know how many times the “kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity” chestnut comes up in conversations I have with some of my leftist leaning friends.

IMHO, Ann makes absurd jokes simply to be absurd- about taking away women’s right to vote, for example. It’s really not too different from the jokes tossed about here and other places. She has a national audience, though, and therein lies the rub. People don’t get the joke (often willingly don’t get the joke), and ARE OUTRAGED.

My mom did teach me this cool thing where you take a casserole dish and ok what you do is you put in a pound of ground beef and then pour in a can of mushroom soup – she says use the good kind – and then a can of peas and kind of mix it and then you cover the whole thing with frozen tater tot thingers and then bake it I’m not sure how long but I think like 35-40 minutes at 350 or so. Call your mom if you try it cause she’ll know. I like this because it involves tots, but I don’t think I would bring it to someone for like a funeral cause I think it’s not even Southern Living cookbook-worthy just something easy enough your idiot kid can make it.

In south Texas for some historical quirky reason there’s a lot of Czech and German people and I think they get the credit. I think you could make a killing doing them here in Los Angeles. 1 lb ground beef, 1 bag of egg noodles cooked, one onion chopped and sauted with 1 cup chopped celery, one can each corn, black olives (pitted), green olives (pitted), mushroom soup, small can tomatoe paste, large can stewed tomatoes — combine in large baking pan, top with 1 pound grated sharp cheddar cheese … bake in medium oven (350) 20-30 minutes until hot and cheese just starts to brown.

Limbaugh has built a huge audience in radio at a time when radio is not anywhere near as popular as tv, which is somehow proof that he doesn’t work too hard. If that logic doesn’t sway you, then the fact that his father had money should. But don’t take those statements as either bigotry or classism or outright self-delusion, because its directed at an acceptable target.

Forget the rather limited body count…look at the loot that’s being looted by Republican contractors. I know Republicans who are living today off the money they took from the Vietnam war and they’ll be collecting for another 30 years (in their 50s now). Retirees from Bechtel, Brown and Root, etc. All for their fine work in Vietnam and indochina or Phillipines etc.. But modern workers no longer have pensions. or very rarely. That’s Republicanism at work.
You don’t know how much wealthy Republicans have gotten off the US Govt. Through warmongering. It’s mind boggleing.

Tell you what, dataless, I’ll start: I think it’s quite wrong — intellectually incorrect when practiced passively and morally wrong when practiced actively — for “progressivism” to increasingly install centralized government as it’s highest power. To call upon the State to right perceived social wrongs involving race, gender, class, economics, medicine, education, etc.

Feets. Rustys casserole recipe;
Saute some chopped onions and garlic in some olive oil on a medium heat. Put in a cup of rice and coat with the olive oil. Toss in some frozen chicken breasts. I can of cream of mushroom soup with a can of water. Cover and simmer till the rice is done. Cover the whole mess with some of those onion rings in a can and grate some cheese(any kind) over it and put it under the broiler for a couple of minutes. For some extra zing put one of them little cans of chopped Jalopenos in the pot too. When I make this my daughter thinks I’m a great chef.

I only do brown rice cause this guy named Larry on the radio in Dallas told me a long time ago to only do brown rice. He had something of a thing about it. Larry North I think it was. Also I don’t know that I have a dish that I can do rice with AND put in the broiler. Mostly cause the lids have sort of wandered off somewhere. I stopped buying olive oil when Spain started doing the we-heart-terrorists thing. They just called elections for March, so maybe we can work something out soon.
