Golden Globes, Oscars … shows delayed? [Darleen Click]

LOS ANGELES

Two of Hollywood’s most glamorous events are now caught up in the entertainment industry’s ugliest labor dispute in two decades. The Writers Guild of America, West, will not allow its members to write for the Golden Globes on Jan. 13 nor the Academy Awards on Feb. 24.

The group’s board of directors decided not to give the academy an interim agreement for writing services, a person close to the guild said Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to comment. The person declined to say when the decision had been made.

This is a bad thing?

Now the guild is casting the strike shadow over the Oscars, the industry’s key showcase for its finest films and hottest actors. The Golden Globes represent another important promotional vehicle.

Heh.

What is this, Oscars thing, of which you speak?

This writer’s strike just highlights the fact that actors and actresses are truly empty suits. They make their livings acting out other people’s words, ideas, and thoughts. The longer this lasts, the better, IMNSHO.

Why does an awards show need writers? Can’t they just hand out the rewards and come up with their own remarks?

Oh noes! An awards show without a lame stand-up routine to interrupt the irrelevant musical numbers designed to distract the audience members from how little they care about someone who isn’t them getting a shiny statuette. Whatever shall we do? HOW CAN WE GO ON??

Oh, that’s right, I almost forgot — WE ACTUALLY DON’T CARE.

But, But, but … THEY CAN’T CANCEL THE OSCARS!!!!

I’ve got money of Redacted as the BIG WEINER WINNER!!

Of course, I think the Phillies are going to win the World Series so there may be just a touch of self delusion workin’.

You couldn’t pay me enough to watch a bunch of people I don’t care about tell each other how great they are. I don’t care enough to fake it.

Last I heard, the Globes were going to be held at Alec Baldwin’s apartment.

    That I would watch.

    BJ – Ain’t gonna happen.

Delayed? Screw delayed. Cancel the damn things. It is just a Hollywood circle jerk. Does anyone care outside of LA?

Boy Howdy! Right on cue Alec shows us why writers are necessary. God that was lame.

Oh Please, oh please, oh please let this go on. Burn, Hollywood, Burn.

    JD: Redacted or Phillies?

    Um … Never mind.

    Where are Hollywood’s insurgent scabs?!!

Who’s gonna be the first to jump up and say, “Hey, I can write better than they can, and for just a 2 cent cut in pay!”

Might be a good time for thos stealth upstarts to step up and score.

The Writers’ Guild has Hollywood by the Golden Globes?

Just think of all the poor A minus-list actors who’ll be out there on the sidewalks, cup in hand, with signs: “Will emcee for residuals”.

If we can’t give ourselves writers’ credits for these shows other people write, we can’t pay ourselves for not writing them.

    INJUSTICE!

The problem is that no one expects the strike to go on forever. The WGA gets the names of the scab writers, and blacklists them from getting a WGA job ever again. Except, this is a “good” blacklist, because they say it is.

Hmmm… I see Golden Globes and Darleen Click on the same line and it ain’t Hollywood that comes to mind.

Obviously the studios should import less-expensive Mexican writers to do the jobs Americans won’t do.

They need writers for the Academy Awards? Why?

Wouldn’t an awards show without the mindless verbiage usually supplied be short and to the point? “Here are the nominees…And the winner is…” Next!

    My kinda show, baby.

They’re casting the strike shadow, she says. No one else says that though. Ever.

    The “Oscar’s”?

That’s what I call my unit – “Oscar (Meyer)”. I always watch with avid interest any show that might reveal the origin of “Oscar’s”
